Volkswagen Lavida 2013-2017 Digital Cluster Installation: 17-Step Upgrade Guide

Step 1. Confirm the original mechanical cluster

Compare the original cluster face, surrounding dashboard trim and instrument opening with this installation route before removing anything.

Take a clear photo of the original dashboard and cluster before starting. This provides a useful record of any warning indications or existing dashboard condition.

Step 2. Begin releasing the dashboard trim

Use a plastic trim-removal tool and release the surrounding panel progressively. Work from the panel joints and retaining points instead of applying heavy leverage to visible trim surfaces.

Step 3. Continue opening the cluster surround

Release the surrounding trim evenly. Do not pull one side outward while the opposite side remains firmly attached.

Clear enough surrounding trim for the original cluster to move forward along its normal removal path without scraping or forcing the bezel.

Bring the cluster forward carefully and support its weight while disconnecting the original connector. Do not let the cluster hang from the harness.

Step 6. Move the original cluster to a clean bench

Perform the internal work on a clean padded surface. Organize removed screws and components before opening the housing.

Release the housing clips and fasteners methodically. If the housing does not separate naturally, locate the remaining retaining point rather than forcing it.

Step 8. Access the original electronics

Identify the required original-board path before disconnecting components. Avoid touching PCB components or exposed contacts directly.

Step 9. Transfer the required original electronics

Move the required retained electronic components into the upgraded digital cluster assembly and position them naturally in their intended mounting locations.

Make sure all connectors are fully seated and no cable is trapped underneath the board.

Step 10. Verify the retained original hardware

Before closing the new housing, inspect the retained board, connectors, cable path and original instrument buzzer.

This is also the correct point to identify whether the original cluster contains the small auxiliary board described below.

Step 11. Reassemble the digital cluster

Close the housing evenly around the perimeter. Apply pressure only to structural housing edges and never directly to the LCD surface.

Step 12. Inspect the completed cluster housing

Check the entire housing seam and verify that the retained electronics, buzzer, ribbons and cables remain correctly positioned.

Step 13. Reconnect the digital cluster

Reconnect the original vehicle harness fully and position the upgraded cluster inside the instrument opening. Keep the surrounding trim open for the first-power test.

Step 14. Route both USB cables

Keep both USB leads accessible near the lower-left storage area below the steering wheel.

One cable is retained for wired software-update access. The other is used for wired projection where supported by the supplied cluster version.

Step 15. Power on and test the digital cluster

Observe startup, warning behavior and the main vehicle-data display. Inspect the LCD for abnormal lines, dark areas or pressure marks.

Step 16. Reinstall the surrounding dashboard trim

After the first-power test passes, align the trim and reinstall it progressively. If unusual pressure is required, check the cluster position and cable routing first.

Step 17. Verify the final installation

Check the completed dashboard from the driver's position. Confirm clean fitment, normal startup, warning indicators, fuel display, turn-signal display, menu operation and general vehicle-information behavior.
